Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Parade
The 2011 NHL Stanley Cup Finals was a weird, wild ride for a lot of reasons. The matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins was special, for one. On the one hand, you had a West Coast team from Canada that had the best record in the regular season and the last two points champs in identical Swedish twins Daniel and Henrik Sedin. Vancouver had also never won a Cup in four decades of existence. Boston, on the other hand, has that Original Six cred and had gone almost four decades without a championship as well ? this in a city where the New England Patriots of the NFL, Celtics of the NBA, and Boston Red Sox of MLB have all had enormous success over the past decade.
The Bruins? triumph in 7 games, on the back of a titanic performance by Tim Thomas, a 37 year-old former also-ran goaltender, was epic. The final game drew record television numbers in both the U.S. and Canada and in Vancouver, after the loss, riots. The victory parade in Boston drew over 1 million delirious Bruins fans.
